What to know about the festivities for Day of the Dead in Mexico City

I hope everyone finds themselves well today. Soon, all of Mexico will be celebrating Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). I don’t plan on going out, but I assume some will be coming to Mexico City for the festivities.
You should look into what is going on in Mexico before jumping on a plane and know that land border crossings are restricted to “essential travel” until at least November 8th.
By the way, I have updated the festivities for Dia de los Muertos that will be going on in Mexico City for 2021.
More restrictions may be coming to Mexico City
There has been a steady increase in hospitalizations in Mexico City because of Coronavirus (COVID.19) cases. Claudia Sheinbaum, the Mayor of Mexico City, is looking into placing new restrictions by Friday October 23rd.
These restrictions may include but are not limited to the shutting down of certain places, not allowing certain activity and the reduction of operating hours for businesses.
What about the Day of the Dead parade
The parade that has been going on since 2016 will be held virtually. You have to download the app “Xóchitl” in order to have access to all virtual events. You will also have the opportunity to interact with individuals in the parade and elsewhere, all from the safety of your home.
Everyone is encouraged to join a homage for individuals lost during this pandemic by lighting a candle and by participating in the performance by a Flashmob.
Cemeteries, ofrendas and other festivities
Cemeteries will be closed. You will not be allowed to visit loved ones that have been lost and some cemeteries will only allow maintenance of individual graves.
There will be no ofrendas in Plaza de la Constitución or catwalks of Catrinas. The festival of the town Mixquic will also not be taking place.
More Coronavirus (Covid-19) Information:
All these changes can be overpowering at times and can be the beginning of more serious problems to come. If you find yourself feeling tensed once you are in Mexico, I suggest you read the actions taken by me during my battle to defeating Coronavirus (Covid-19) anxiety. It has good information that will help you relax.
Also, do not forget to look into Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases by State in Mexico. The information details case changes by state and can be used to assess your risk factor of coming to Mexico.
